For me and scores of other people, today is a very sad day for politics. For others on the other side of the aisle, there is rejoicing. That shows how powerful a Senator Ted Kennedy must have been. The Liberal Lion, as he was known never became President because of Chappaquiddick, but he became the most popular of Senators for a long career. Many would kill to make that claim, but the GOP has taken every opportunity to imply Kennedy was a failure. His must have been a very dark shadow in which to stand.

The Anti-Decency Ticket

To borrow a line from Bette Davis when Joan Crawford died, I'll paraphrase and fill in another name.

I don't say bad things about people when they die -- only good things. Jessie Helms is dead...Good.

If it was left to the conservatives in Congress, we would not be celebrating this holiday today. The conservative Republicans are the first ones to claim love of country, touting their patriotism, but they did everything possible to prevent us from severing ties with Great Britain in 1776. They refused to accept the Declaration of Independence unless slavery was allowed and have continued that racism through the years with anti civil rights politicians such as Jessie Helms. Ironic that his death would be announced on the Fourth of July as our nation celebrates it freedom. HAPPY FOURTH!!!
